Content Designer (maternity cover)

The Vacancy
We are looking for a Content Designer to join our Digital Experience team. The role is fixed-term maternity cover (9 months initially, with the possibility of extension). This role will play a key part in developing engaging, accessible and user-centred content across the National Library of Scotland's websites, helping people discover and connect with our collections and services.
A major focus of the role will be our Collections Content programme. This involves working collaboratively with colleagues across the Library to create collection guides, introductions, and features that open up Scotland's knowledge, history, and culture to a wide range of audiences. You'll work with subject specialists from initial concept through briefing, drafting, review and publication, ensuring content is clear, compelling and designed around user needs. Alongside this, you will help develop new website content, contribute to content review processes, and support the ongoing improvement of our digital content.
What we are looking for -
We are looking for someone with significant experience of creating high-quality digital content and working collaboratively with subject experts and stakeholders. You will be a confident and adaptable content professional who can turn complex information into clear, engaging and accessible web content. You will also understand how people discover and use content online. Comfortable working with content management systems and digital publishing tools, you will be able to balance multiple pieces of work at different stages of development. Most importantly, you'll be curious about audiences, committed to user-centred content design, and skilled at building positive relationships that help colleagues contribute their expertise to great digital content.
