The Vacancy
We are seeking a full-time Security Officer to join our Security Team within the Library’s Business Support Department. This is a shift-based role, working a 12-hour rota of four days on (two days, two nights) followed by four days off.
The Security Team plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of colleagues, Library users, buildings, and the National Library of Scotland’s collections. The team also responds to unexpected security and safety incidents, requiring calm judgement and prompt, effective action.
We are looking for a reliable and committed team player who is equally comfortable working independently with minimal supervision. You will be honest, dependable, and adaptable, with a flexible approach to work and a positive attitude towards change.
Previous experience in a security role would be beneficial. Knowledge of health and safety and fire safety procedures is desirable, along with a willingness to learn and embrace new ways of working.
You should hold a full driving licence and either already have a First Aid qualification or be willing to obtain one within your first year. You will also be confident using Office 365 and other computer based systems.
