The Vacancy
The National Library of Scotland invites applications for the Fellowship in Digital Research 2025-26.
This Fellowship supports an exciting opportunity for a three-month period of research into any aspect of the Library’s data collections available on Data Foundry (https://data.nls.uk/), using data science or other digital research methods.
This year, the Fellowship’s theme relates to Artificial Intelligence/machine learning: what happens at the intersection of cultural heritage and new technologies? What can we learn from applying AI tools to the collections? What efficiencies are generated, what opportunities are created, what risks are formed? How can access to collections be widened, and how can learning about the collections be shared?
The Fellowship does not require residency within the Library: we welcome applications for remote ‘residency’ but expect Fellows to visit the Library to carry out engagement activities for some of their tenure.
International applicants based outside the UK may undertake this Fellowship remotely from overseas as part of their work employment with their university or company, or in a freelance capacity registered overseas. You must have the right to work in the UK when you apply for any position at the Library. The terms of your eligibility to work (e.g. visa) must fit with the requirements of the advertised post. The Library is unable to offer visa sponsorship to undertake the fellowship onsite.
The Library is not able to offer this Fellowship as a student grant, bursary, or stipend.
More information, requirements and eligibility details are available in the accompanying document.
Applications must be submitted to jobs@recruitment.nls.uk by 5pm GMT on Monday, 17 February 2025.
For further information or an informal discussion, please contact Dr Sarah Ames, Digital Scholarship Librarian: sarah.ames@nls.uk
You will find the Fellowship description and Equal Opportunities form at the bottom of this page.
