The Vacancy
The National Library of Scotland turns 100 in 2025 and our plans are shaping up nicely for an exciting year-long programme of events, exhibitions and media activity. The Centenary Coordinator is an essential role in supporting, planning and developing this programme, and making sure everything happens when it’s supposed to happen. The post is fixed term until 31 March 2026.
What we are looking for -
We’re looking for someone who is highly organised with a strong work ethic. Working alongside the Centenary Producer and Head of Media and External Relations, you will have a knowledge of and keen interest in Scotland’s literature and culture scene, and a strong news sense. Your relationship skills will be impeccable – you will be able to communicate with people throughout the Library, as well as externally with key partner organisations, talent agencies and newsdesks.
A multi-tasker, you will be able to pivot at a moment’s notice to help solve a problem or capitalise on a golden opportunity. You will be able to navigate processes and procedures with ease and keep your colleagues to deadline. Next year will be fun, demanding and highly rewarding for the Centenary Coordinator, so if you have the enthusiasm and energy for all of the above, we’d love to hear from you.
What we can offer you –
If you are successful, you will be working for one of Scotland’s premier cultural institutions, a library that holds the nation’s memory in its vast collections. You’ll have the opportunity to work flexibly, where the service allows, and we’ll provide you with training and development opportunities. We have generous annual leave and offer a pension scheme. And of course, you’ll join a team of great colleagues.
You can contact our Centenary Producer, Claire Allan (c.allan@nls.uk) if you have any questions about the post. Interviews will be held on Wednesday 18 September.
We will consider applications from applicants who wish to work flexibly. Please mention this in your application.
We encourage applications from people who belong to marginalised communities particularly people of colour, those from a working-class background, disabled and LGBTQ+ people.
